Sodium Silicate (Water Glass)

It is generally used in the carbon dioxide molding process. For the hardening of molds and cores, a mixture of sand with 1.5–6% sodium silicate is placed around the pattern, and CO₂ gas is passed through it. It is used to increase strength by ensuring that the sand grains bond tightly to each other.
