<Ferrophosphorus

Ferrophosphorus

It dissolves in iron and combines with it in the form of iron phosphide (Fe₃P). It helps carbon separate in the form of graphite. It increases the fluidity of cast iron and extends the solidification time. In lamellar graphite cast iron compositions, it is present at levels between 0.50% and 1.00%. High-phosphorus cast irons are very brittle and weak; therefore, 0.50% is considered a normal phosphorus content. As the phosphorus content increases, the hardness of lamellar graphite cast iron also increases.
